UPLB Research Ethics Board

By virtue of OC Administrative Order No. 011 series of 2024, the UPLB Research Ethics Board tasked is to:  

  1. Facilitate an independent, competent, and timely review and approval of the scientific merit and ethical acceptability of all research involving human               participants conducted by students, faculty, REPS, and/or other employees of the University, regardless of where the research is conducted;
  2. Train members of the university in the responsible conduct of research involving people and, in the policies, and procedures in research ethics review;
  3. Exercise appropriate action on research if substantive ethics flaws during the review, progress monitoring, and until such time that any such flaw have been   addressed to the satisfaction of the Board’s panel; and
  4. Ensure that the University’s framework and policies for research ethics review, including the REB’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) adhere to professional,
    international, national, and institutional guidelines and best practices.
  5. Direct efforts towards competency and efficiency in ethical review of research involving human participants and meet standards for higher levels of national and international accreditation and institutionalization.

The UPLB REB is established by authorization of the UPLB Chancellor and exercises its mandate through the following structure: 

  • UPLB Chancellor, as the appointing officer; 
  • UPLB Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension, as the recommending officer; and
  • UPLB Research Ethics Board (UPLB REB), as the implementing committee.
